| saprophytic | fungus absorbs nutrients from non-living matter |
| parasitic | absorb nutrients from living flesh or plant tissues |
| mycelium | the main body of a fungus; interwoven mass of threadlike filaments, the whitish fuzz on your bread |
| spore-bearing body | the more obvious, emergent part of the fungus that releases spores: Mushrooms, puffballs, little black knobs on stalks |
