Secure attachmentThe infant is distressed by the caregivers absence but quickly returns to a state of contentment when they return, immediately seeking contact with them. There is a clear difference between their reaction to the care giver and the stranger.
Anxious resistant (insecure)The infant is secure in the presence of the caregiver and becomes distressed when they leave but resists contact with them when they return. They are wary of the stranger.
Anxious avoidant (insecure)The infant does not seek contact with the caregiver and shows no distress when they leave. The infant avoids contact when they return. The stranger is treated in a similar way.
DisorganisedThe baby appears to be confused, clinging to the caregiver and avoiding them at the same time.
