~ FIRST GRADE ART ~ 2010-2011 UPDATE ~
First Graders have drawn line design turtles; arranged, traced, and colored shapes to create a composition; painted, cut, and glued paper to make color wheel flowers; drew, colored, and painted a picture of Mary; wax resist bird paintings; painted with watercolor paint (watercolor storms) beginning by using white crayons to draw lightening, and painting over it to draw the sky, then desert plants and animals; formed animals with air dry clay; learned how to draw three-dimensional forms; and finger-painted then made a print of a landscape scene which satisfied the following Diocesan standards: Strand 1, C-1, PO-a (line in art), b, (color in art), PO-c (shape), PO-d, (form ) C-3, PO-1 (drawing), PO-2 (painting), PO-3 (printmaking), C-4, PO-a (sculpture). Also, Strand 2, R-1, (understand and appreciate the place of art as it reflects our Catholic beliefs) and Strand 3, E-1, PO-a (explore relevancy to Catholic faith). C-5, PO-a, PO-b (safety and care of art materials); Strand 2, R-1 (understand place of art in historical and cultural context).
