Wednesday Beginning Latin

SALVETE DISCIPULĪ!

I hope you've been able to enjoy the snow!

Please review vocabulary from chapters 1-5 on quizlet: https://quizlet.com/whirldeirene/folders/lingua-latina-matone-homeschool.

Then take a look at two new activities below based on capitulum quintum, chapter 5, which we are reading. Then review this page and the work we've done so far. Continue to practice the activity for the new prepositions we are learning, and the top few activities to review verbs and the nominative (Hi! I'm the subject), accusative (Hi! I'm the direct object. I receive the action of the verb), and ablative (Hi! I'm with a preposition). So you should be practicing activities 1-5 below.

See you next week!
Valete,
Magistra

Review the Roman provinces:

Review the 2 noun families that we know and the rules that each family follows, each family's 'code.'

Codes are for the
NOMINATIVE: Hi, I am the subject!
GENITIVE: Hi, translate me 'of' or apostrophe s
ACCUSATIVE: Hi, I am the direct object, receiving the action of the verb!
IN + ABLATIVE: Hi, I go with a preposition!
VOCATIVE: Hi, I am used when you talk directly to someone! (direct address)

Review the code!
For the first family, here is the code:
In the singular:
nom.: -a
gen. : -ae
acc. : -am
in + abl. : in -ā
voc. : -a

In the plural:
nom.: -ae
gen.: -ārum
acc.: -ās
in + abl.: in -īs
voc: -ae

For the 2nd family upstairs (masculine) the code endings are:
In the singular:
nom.: -us/-r
gen: -ī
acc.: -um
in + abl: -ō
voc.: -us --> -e; -ius --> -ī

In the plural:
nom.: -ī
gen: -ōrum
acc.: -ōs
in + abl: īs
voc.: - ī

For the 2nd family downstairs (neuter) the code endings are:
In the singular:
nom.: -um
gen: -ī
acc.: -um
in + abl: ō
voc.: -um

In the plural:
nom.: -a
gen: -ōrum
acc.: -a
in + abl: -īs
voc.: -a

Now use this code to figure out the answers to the questions in the second activity below.

Also review verb code:

We use the mnemonic (trick to help us remember things):

"most, must, isn't"

-m/ō -s -t -mus -tis -nt

-m or -ō = I
-s = you
-t = he/she/it

-mus = we
-tis = y'all
-nt = they
