Speaking activity in two lines. Students write a French sentence telling where they are going and ask another student, "Tu viens?" (Are you coming?). The other student responds "Oui, je viens or Non, je ne viens pas. Lines rotate so everyone gets a chance to practice the verb 10 + times.

TWO HOUR DELAY
Period 1 - Introduction to stress pronouns. Period 8 - Review of yellow box vocab. Computer lab 6b. Students had time in the computer lab to do activities to help them practice the grammar and vocabulary for this lesson. We reviewed how to log in to the online book, where to find practice review quizzes, and how to log in to QUIA. The QUIA website keeps a record of how much time students spend doing activities if students log in when practicing. This can be a useful tool for both parents and teacher. I have found that the students who put in the most time practicing tend to do very well on assessments. :)
We announced that the Test over Leçon 15 would be on Tuesday, January 13, postponed in case of snow days. **Update: Leçon 15 test now scheduled for Wednesday, January 14.

Workbook p. 134 - B3 Students put answers on the board and the entire class worked to correct it. We practiced the stress pronouns in the phrases "pour lui" (for him), "pour eux" (for them) and "pour elle" (for her) and "pour elles" as we passed out bonbons.
Workbook p. 134 C4 & C5 - Madame checked each student's responses and students earned a "bonbon pour lui/elle" when they had everything correct.

All 8th grade students learned about agriculture from a guest speaker in the auditorium, so first period did not have French class. 7th period students had a discussion about the Unity demonstration that occurred in Paris on Sunday and about the French and American traditions of guaranteeing freedom of speech and of the press.
Tuesday, January 13… mardi le 13 janvier
We warmed up with the "Et toi?" activity on p. 217. Students turned this in.
Next we listened to the dialogue on p. 216, practiced pronunciation and answered the comprehension questions orally.
Students listened to the Note Culturelle about French cafés and answered questions orally.
We went over the answers to the homework worksheet that was assigned Friday and due Monday and answered related student questions. Students who had the homework with them and completed received a green frog stamp on their papers.

We started Lesson 16 with the song "Moi, je fais ma valise rose" and introduced the yellow box vocab on p. 229 and possessive adjectives. HOMEWORK: Workbook p. 140 We did the first few items together in class.

We went over the answers to the homework. We made up a dance to go with the song "Moi, je fais ma valise rose" and we practiced some translations with possessive pronouns. We got a start on the homework and briefly introduced ordinal numbers. Homework: Workbook p. 141 exercise 4 and p. 142 exercise 5.

Some students needed to spend time in class today retaking a test or quiz, and will do the song activity on their own over the next week. Friday February 6 is the last day to turn in the Learning with songs activity.

1. Choose one of the following songs (accessible from our French enrichment page): La mer, Tous les Garçons et les Filles, Papa où t'es, La tribu de dana, Danse, Quand la musique est bonne, Ça ira, Non, non, non, or Je veux.
2. Search the web for the French lyrics to your song. If you put the song name and artist name into Google, along with the French word for lyrics - PAROLES- you should be able to find them easily. Print the French lyrics.
3. Copy and paste the French lyrics into Google translate or a similar computer translator to get a ROUGH translation into English and print that as well. BEWARE -- you cannot completely trust these machine translators, but they are not worthless either. Print the English translation.
4.Click on the link to your song from the French Enrichment Page, close out the cookie notification and, in the bottom left corner of the page, click on the microphone that has the word "KARAOKE" next to it. Listen to your song and read along with the French lyrics a couple of times to familiarize yourself with the song.
5. Circle, on your French lyrics sheet, 5 different examples of any of the following: conjugated verbs, infinitive verbs, subject pronouns, question words, adverbs or adjectives. Label what you find. (For example if I circle "Où" I would label it as a question word. If I circle "maintenant" I would label it as an adverb.
6. Turn in your French and English lyrics sheets with your name on it.

We listened to the song "Défilé de mode." and began translating the lyrics
Using page 149 in the workbook, we practiced the pronunciation of the clothing items pictured and students labeled each picture using textbook pages 258-260 as a reference. We added a few items that were featured in the textbook but did not appear in the workbook out to the side. Then we did a listening activity requiring students to number the order in which each item was named.
Students did some speaking practice, answering questions about what they are wearing, and what they like to wear.
Homework: Start studying yellow box vocabulary pages 258-260 using the method that WORKS for you -- flashcards, writing words repeatedly, quizlet, etc. Our Lesson 17 test will be on Friday, February 13.

Labeled song lyrics from last Friday, January 30 are due today. See entry from that date for instructions.
Today students began with Activity 1 on p. 264 -- a listening activity which required students to look at two different pictures, each containing different clothing items and identify which picture was being described based on the clothing item mentioned. We went over the answers for each of the 14 sentences. Students were encouraged to note whether or not their studying methods from the previous two evenings had been sufficient for them to be successful at this activity, and adjust their strategies accordingly.
We rehearsed together as a class Activity 1: Shopping on p. 259 and then students practiced these dialogues with partners.
We had 15 minutes to get started on the class-/home- work and Madame Elliott provided model answers to Activity 2 on p. 259.
Homework:P. 259 --Activity 2, p. 260--Activity 3, p. 261--Activity 5. Notice that activity 5 asks you how many logical sentences you can make in five minutes - so stick to that! Our Lesson 17 test will be on Friday, February 13.
Extra Credit opportunity: Design an outfit and label each clothing item in French. Depending on the quality of your design and presentation, you can earn up to 5 extra credit points.

C'est le jour de la banane... It was a great day to celebrate service to others -- Wearing the banana costume was fun so thanks to all of the students for your donations to Pennies for Patients that made the day happen.
We watched "Les Bananes en Pyjama" 5 minute video, enjoyed "le goûter," played BRAVO/BINGO with our current vocabulary. Homework: Continue to study the clothing vocabulary.
