Note: Please remember that all assignments (including labs) are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Any work turned in after class has started will have a 5% deduction from the score (you may be asked to leave the room if we are discussing work that you have not completed on time). Any work turned more than 24 hours late will receive a 0% score. Tests, when announced in the class page, will be opened only for the time period specified.
Day 1:
*Orientation and grading policy.
*Visit website of the major laundry manufacturers to retrieve technical information to enable us to diagnose and complete repairs to manufacturer’s standards. Go through the Whirlpool AM5 (Apartment Maintenance) laundry technical manual online in the "Service Matters" website (see link below).
*Set up Whirlpool top loading washing machines as per installation guide in the Whirlpool AM5 (prt#4322616) technical manual (refer to pages 2 - 4). Test unit to make sure it is operating properly (fills, agitates, neutral drain, and spins with timer advancing).
*Hands on test on day 6.
Day 2 through 6:
*Properly filling out a service invoice. You will fill out invoices for each unit you work on for the remainder of the course. You will be provided with invoices.
*Demonstration on disassembly and identification of parts and systems in the top load Whirlpool unit.
*Each student will have their own top load Whirlpool direct drive washer to disassemble (see instructor for degree of disassembly), identify parts and systems, reassemble and restore to proper operation during the Whirlpool top load study period.
*Demonstration and discussion on wiring diagrams and cam charts.
*Demonstration and discussion on diagnostic techniques.
Day 6:
Hands on diagnostic test on your unit (grading rubric to be provided by instructor).
Days 7 through 12:
*Demonstration on disassembly and identification of parts and systems in the top load GE, Maytag and Electrolux units.
*Demonstration on a 20 minute Shop Report.
*Each student will give a 20 minute oral shop report, due on days 11 and 12, names will be drawn for order of rotation (see instructor for grading rubric).
*Each student will have their own top load washers to disassemble (see instructor for degree of disassembly), identify parts and systems, reassemble and restore to proper operation during this segment. Rotation through each brand will be necessary to accommodate everyone.
*Demonstration and discussion on wiring diagrams and cam charts.
*Demonstration and discussion on diagnostic techniques.
Day 11:
*Start oral shop reports.
Day 12:
*Finish oral shop reports.
*Hands on diagnostic test on your units (grading rubric to be provided by instructor).
Days 13 through 18:
*Demonstration on disassembly and identification of parts and systems in the top load "high end" and efficient (energy star rated) units.
*Each student will have their own washers to disassemble (see instructor for degree of disassembly), identify parts and systems, reassemble and restore to proper operation during this segment. Rotation through each brand will be necessary to accommodate everyone.
*Each student will give a 20 minute oral shop report, due on days 17 and 18, names will be drawn for order of rotation (see instructor for grading rubric).
*Demonstration and discussion on wiring diagrams and cam charts.
*Demonstration and discussion on diagnostic techniques.
Day 17:
*Start oral shop reports.
Day 18:
*Finish oral shop reports.
*Hands on diagnostic test on your units (grading rubric to be provided by instructor).
Days 19 through 24:
*Demonstration on disassembly and identification of parts and systems in the front load units.
*Each student will have their own washers to disassemble (see instructor for degree of disassembly), identify parts and systems, reassemble and restore to proper operation during this segment. Rotation through each brand will be necessary to accommodate everyone.
*Each student will give a 20 minute oral shop report, due on days 23 and 24, names will be drawn for order of rotation (see instructor for grading rubric).

Day 23:
*Start oral shop reports.
Day 24:
*Finish oral shop reports.
*Hands on diagnostic test on your units (grading rubric to be provided by instructor).
Days 25 through 30:
*Demonstration on customer service, floor/body/equipment protection and in home diagnostics.
* This week we will be incorporating all of the elements we have learned so far into the "Professional Service Call.” You will be practicing what I have demonstrated and discussed in this segment and then tested by repairing a "bugged" machine of my choice. Your grade will be determined by how well you provide customer service, body/customer's home/equipment protection, as well as diagnosing correctly, giving a written estimate and repairing the unit. Upon completion of the test, you will hand to me (the customer) a properly completed service invoice (provided by the instructor).
Days 31 through 36:
*We will be taking in washing machines from the outside (people related to the campus) and repairing them. You will be developing you skill further by offering professional estimates and repairs under the program' guidance (we will not be going into homes at this time to perform repairs).
Days 37 through 42:
*Continue taking in washers and offering estimates and repairs from people connected to RTC campus.
*Possible field trip to observe commercial laundering equipment.
Days 43 through 54:
*Practice for repair competitions (see instructor).
*Final testing on units (hands on diagnostic, customer service, repairing and written). These will be timed tests.
