Florida Counties are Not Being Represented

534,000 people live in the 13 rural counties in Florida's 3rd Senatorial District in Northern Florida have just one Senator, while Miami-Dade County has 6 senators and 16 Representatives.

The 16 counties in Florida's Panhandle have 3 senators. The people living in the Miami-Dade Countyg are over represented in our state legislature and the people in the rural counties of Northern Florida are is not being heard.

In order to comply with a Supreme Court ruling the state legislature created 40 senatorial districts to replace the 67 counties that had previously been equally represented since 1925

This legislation turned the state's bicameral legislature into a unicameral legislature that took from the small rural counties their equal representation. The state's senate became a second  version of the state's House of Representatives.

If the U.S. Senate were apportioned like it is the states, Florida would have 42 U.S. Senators instead of only 2.

What We Have is

Tyranny of the Majority
