Direct Versus Indirect Elections

If there was an election to determine who would serve as the President of a medical school should the choice be made by the people a large or by a panel of physicians?
In a pure democracy, the decision would be made will of the majority of largely uninformed voters. In a representative democracy, the decision would be made by the representatives of the people.
In our House of Representatives, the representatives are chosen in a direct election, while the senators were chosen by an indirect election, where the representatives of the people in the state legislatures selected their own senators,
Indirect elections empower the masses, while indirect elections limit the right to vote to the best informed voters to make important political decisions.
This is why senators and Presidents are chosen in indirect elections.
