How Should We Elect the President?
Keith Broaders Liberty Tree University

James Madison believed that every state should be divided into districts that would be limitrd to one representative for every 30,000 inhabitants and one Presidential Elector.

He also believed that each  Presidential Elector should be chosen to represent a Congressional District and not the state at large.

Direct statewide Presidential Elections with  the "Winner Take All" method of allocating  all of their electoral votes to the candidate receiving the most popular votes is classic example of a tyranny of the majority, which is exactly what the Electoral College was created to prevent,.

The Elector should be  a highly respected, wise ,virtuous non partisan individual.

He believed that rather than having statewide  popularity contest we should have each Congressional District conduct a district wide election to choose a presidential Elector.

Rather than allowing over 100 million ignorant and uninformed voters elect the President we would be far better off having the Presidential Electors in the Congressional Districts choose the next President.

The Electoral College was created to insure that voice of the minority of people in the small states would not be ignore an that is exactly what the Winner Take All system promotes.
