In the election of 1801 the compromise over apportionment counted slaves as 3/5 of a person and gave Virginia 6 extra seats in the House of Represdentatives and assuning that all six of those votes would have gone to Thomas Jefferson would have received 6 less votes. Adams received 65 votes to Jefferson's 66.
In 1796 Virginia allocated their electoral votes based on the results of districtwide elections, but changed in 1800 to a winner take all system. As a result Jefferson received all of the state's electoral votes.
Had the district allocation method used in 1796 been used Adams would have likely received 5 more or a total 70 electoral votes and Jefferson would have received 68. If the 7 votes that he got as a result of the three fifths compromise the results would have reduced Jefferson total to 61.
bd Jefferson would have tied with
his total of electoral votes would have been reduced from 73 to 66
