Welcome to Earth Science!

I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and being able to share this academic year with you.

Course Description

Earth Science is a combination of many sciences, including geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy. In this course we will cover each of these subjects. This is an SOL course. The Earth Science standards connect the study of the Earth's composition, structure, processes, and history; its atmosphere, fresh water, and oceans; and its environment in space. The standards emphasize historical contributions in the development of scientific thought about the Earth and space. The standards stress the interpretation of maps, charts, tables, and profiles; the use of technology to collect, analyze, and report data; and the utilization of science skills in systematic investigation. Problem solving and decision making are an integral part of the standards, especially as they relate to the costs and benefits of utilizing the Earth's resources. Major topics of study include plate tectonics, the rock cycle, earth history, the oceans, the atmosphere, weather and climate, and the solar system and universe.

Class Expectations:

I expect for each and every one of us to have a successful year, especially come SOL time. If we all work hard and strive to do our best then everything else will fall into place. I expect students to be able to work together and respect others opinions. RESPECT is the biggest expectation I hold for both myself and the students. I will show you respect and I expect you to do the same both to me and to fellow students.

Class Rules:

In the classroom there are only a few rules and procedures that must be followed and if they are each one of us will have a successful year. The rules are as follows:
1. BE PROMPT - be on time and where you are supposed to be
2. PREPARATION IS KEY - have all required materials needed for class
