**Be certain to complete all the work and research questions in French. This is very important!!
(This question asks for a description of Alberta's bio-zones or life zones. The province is divided into 6 distinct zones each with unique features. This question asks you to describe the zones. A paragraph describing each zone would probably be sufficient. You could decide to make one information card for 2 zones, use the front and back of the cards. Afterward put the cards into your mobile. Click on the link below to go to a website with information on Alberta's bio-zones. Make sure all the information on your cards is in French) 2. Comment les Albertains utilisent-ils les ressources? (This question asks for a description of how Albertans use their resources. What are Alberta's resources? How are they used. To complete this part of the task I recommend you pick 2-3 of Alberta's main resources and explain in 2-3 sentences how each resource is used by Albertans. This information, printed neatly on cards would form another string of your mobile. You could also try to include graphics that illustrate the resources you explained.) 3. (This question is about technology and natural resources. How does modern technology affect how Albertans collect, process and use our natural resources. How does technology affect how we find natural resources and gather our natural resources. For example, a pipeline can improve how we move our main resource. It is easier and faster to move oil in a pipeline than it is to move it by truck. The information gathered in this part of the project could be printed neatly on index cards and added to your mobile.) 4. (This question asks if Alberta's natural resources meet all our needs. Which needs are met by Alberta's resources? Which needs are not met? How do we meet the needs that are not met by Alberta's resources. This question could be answered and the information could be put onto color coded cards. Pick one color to describe the needs that are met by Alberta's resources and pick one color to describe the needs that are met by resources gathered from elsewhere.) 5.Est-ce qu'on conserve les ressources pour les générations à venir? (This question asks how we conserve or protect resources for the people who will come after we are gone. To answer this question you could pick 2-3 of Alberta's resources and find out how we conserve them. Then write the information on cards and add them to your mobile.) 6. (This question asks about wildlife in Alberta. Are wild animals considered resources? Are they renewable or non-renewable? How do we use this resource? Are there any animals in danger of extinction? If so what animals are they? What are we doing to make sure they do not go extinct?) 7. Quels sont les symboles d'Alberta? (This question asks students to describe Alberta's symbols. I recommend choosing 4 or 5 symbols and describing their appearance, the meanings of the symbols and why they symbolize Alberta. Do not forget to include pictures of the symbols you decided to include in your mobile.) **I will provide internet time at school for students who do not have access at home. However I encourage students to try to print out photos or other graphics at home. If it is not possible I will make arrangements to have photos printed. Some hints to make this project easier. 1. Do all of the research before you begin making the mobile. 2. Use lined paper to make rough copies of your cards. 3. Make sure to write a title on each card. The title might just be the questions. Use complete sentences and paragraphs on your cards. 4. Use hand drawn pictures, magazine cut-outs, photos from the internet (Ask your parents for permission to print the photos.) 5. Pictures should be related to the text on the card and should enhance the reader's experience. Use labels and captions to add to the reader's enjoyment and understanding. 6. Refer to the photo page when constructing your mobile. You are free to use your own methods but remember that the quality of your work will be evaluated and you will likely be more successful if you pattern your mobile after the sample one. 7. Use a glue stick for light paper to cardboard pasting. We will use hot glue guns at shool to glue the cardboard onto the hanger. 8. Make sure to check the evaluation page before handing in your project. Check over your work and imagine you are evaluating it. Go through the criteria and try to predict what kind of mark you will receive. If you are satisfied you may hand in your work. 9. Use caution with search engines such as google, yahoo or any other search engine. It is difficult to evaluate information and those skills take time to develop. I recommend you use the websites that are in the useful links section of the pages. 10. If you decide to type your information then print it and paste it onto the cards make sure you use Times New Roman font and it is big enough to read.
