Pop-Up: Identify Types of Sentences (Fragments and Run-Ons)
Fragments, Run-Ons and Sentences, Oh My! Practice determining if the group of words is a sentence, fragment, or run-on. If you need to refresh your memory, read the definitions below before starting the game. A complete sentence conveys a complete idea. A run-on sentence contains more than one complete idea. Example: The trip was terrible the car broke down twice and we had to have it towed. Corrected: The trip was terrible. The car broke down and it had to be towed.) A sentence fragment does not contain a complete idea. Example: Walking, running and swimming. Corrected: Walking, running or swimming are great ways to exercise.
