Genitive Case

Beginning German - practice for the genitive case

Recall that the Genitive case is used primarily in two applications:

1) Genitive is used to show possession or a close relationship between two nouns.

2) Genitive is used following certain genitive prepositions. These include the following:
"trotz" = "inspite of"
"während" = "during"
"laut" = "according to"
"wegen" = "because of"
"anhand" = "on the basis of"

3)Another common appearance of the genitive is in the expression "eines Tages", meaning "some day...", as in "Some day I'll be famous." A comparable expression in German would be the following: "Eines Tages werde ich berühmt sein."
