Demonstrative pronouns

Demonstrative pronouns refer to a noun previously mentioned and demonstrate which one it is.

Masculine celui / this one ceux / these (ones)
Feminine celle / this one celles / these (ones)

• To distinguish between this one here and that one there, the endings –ci (here) and –là (there).

Quel veston aimes-tu? Celui-ci ou celui-là?
Which jacket do you like, this one or that one?

• With DE to indicate possesion
Quel équipe préférez-vous? Celle de Vancouver ou celle de Toronto? (Vancouver's or Toronto's)

* With relative pronouns QUI and QUE ("the one that")
Celui que je t'ai acheté = the one that I bought you
Ceux qui vont au collège + Those who go to college.
