English, Yes Extra PATs Activity 2 -PA AND THE DISHES
Read this story and then answer the questions below. "Oh, Edite!" Since Pa couldn't speak Englisih very well, he always called me for help. He expected me to drop whatever I was doing to take care of something. Pa never called my brother, Carlos, to help. No, Carlos never had to do a thing, except play. Recently, I had to talk on the phone to a lady who wanted some old dishes. The dishes, along with some old furniture and junk, had been in the house when we moved in. They were in the cellar, stacked in cardboard boxes and covered with dust. The woman called many times, wanting to speak to Pa. "My father can't speak English," I would explain. "He says to tell you the dishes are in our house so they belong to us." But she did not understand and in every few days, she would call again. "Oh, Edite!" Pa's voice echoed through the empty rooms. I wanted to pretend I did not hear it when his voice had that tone. But I couldn't escape. I couldn't disappear into thin air as I wished to do at such times. "Oh my......"
