HSPT-LA-using affect, effect, among, and between

'Affect' is a verb (Soft drinks affect my system). 'Effect' is a noun (They produce a jittery effect). 'Effect' can sometimes be used as a verb meaning to cause or to bring about. If you can substitute the words 'cause' or 'bring about' in its place, 'effect' is correct.

Use 'between' when talking about two people or items; use 'among' with larger numbers (The thirty students argued among themselves, but we had no problems between the two of us).
