Silabificacion/Syllabification

Breaking words into syllables in Spanish follows a set of assumptions that are different for English speakers. Here are some principles of Spanish syllabification:

A) The core of every syllable is a vowel or diphthong.
B) Divide consonants by attaching them to the vowel that follows.
C) With two consonants, separate them. If the second consonant is r or l, do not divide them.
D) Separate strong vowels (aeo) Separate weak vowels (i u) from other vowels if there is an accent on the weak vowel.
E) You may divide at the end of a prefix.
F) With three consonants, divide as seems appropriate.
