8th Grade Grammar Exam Practice December 2010

You have four grammar concepts for this exam - the present progressive tense, affirmative "tú" commands, three stem-changing verbs, and demonstrative adjectives. Use your notes from the Exam Review Sheet to help with the following exercises.

1) Present Progressive - conjugate the verb "estar" with the subject and add the participle (-ar verbs take -ando and -er/-ir verbs take -iendo).
2) "Tú" Commands - telling someone what to do. These verbs look like the regular "tú" conjugated but without the final -s. Exceptions are "poner" (pon) and "hacer" (haz).
3) Stem-Changing Verbs "pensar", "querer", and "preferir" - all stem-change from e to ie. The stem-change occurs in the "boot" - in other words, NOT with "nosotros."
4) Demonstrative Adjectives - must agree with the noun they modify. Remember, the "t" means you can touch it ("this__" or "these___").
this/these - este, esta, estos, estas
that/those - ese, esa, esos, esas
