Ser and estar both correspond to the English "to be". Ser (soy, eres, es, somos, son) is used when talking about 1. where someone is from "Es de Guatemala." 2. identifying "Soy profesor" "Ella es Marta" 3. For possession. "El libro es de Manuel." 4. To talk about inherent characteristics of personality or physical traits. "Federico es inteligente." "Mis primos (cousins) son altos." Estar (estoy, estás, está, estamos, están) is used to state 1. where someone or something is located. "Village Market está en Riverwalk." "Mis niños están en la escuela." 2. to state the current condition / feelings of someone or something. "Estoy cansado (tired)." Choose weather ser or estar should be used in the following sentences.
