About me
Nov. 2nd, 2015

Chers parents,

We have had a busy month with all the excitement of Halloween.  Students have developed Halloween vocabulary and were able to make simple sentences.  I am very happy with the progress that the children are making to date and I am impressed with their willingness to improve their study habits in class. The students are also putting much effort into their printing.  In class, we have been concentrating on proper size and formation of letters.  We are also working on spacing between words and the correct placement of capital letters and periods.  When reading with your child at home, it would be helpful to point out where the periods and capitals are placed and the reasoning behind it.

This month, students will be working on reading simple French books and increasing their vocabulary level. When reading with your child, ask them to look for combination sounds in words to help them with their decoding strategies (ou, ch, on, in, an, un, eu, oi, au, eau).  In Mathematics, we are counting to 100 by tens and skip counting by 2’s.   We will also be working on developing their knowledge of addition and subtraction facts to 12.

During Social Studies, the grade 1 students are focusing on building a safe and caring classroom community.  We are working on problem solving, helping others and sharing. Students are loving Kimochi time! In Science, students will observe the seasonal changes around them.  In Health, Mr. D., from our school’s Right from the Start team, will continue providing workshops (English) in class that are related to the ERS Wellness Wheel.  It helps to talk about issues with your child and get a sense of how they are handling situations that arise at school or at home.

Thank you for helping your child with their reading homework.  Your support and encouragement are greatly appreciated.  Thank you to parent volunteers this month who helped with Photo Day and Pizza Day.  It was a pleasure meeting with parents and students to review our classroom goals in October.  Thank you for all your support and hard work at home.  Portfolios and the 1st Term Report card will be sent home late January.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Langlois
