About me |
I started to learn Spanish in high school. I had a great Spanish teacher, Dottie Gingerich Strickler, who got the class involved in teaching Spanish to elementary schools and encouraged me to get involved with a Bilingual Kindergarten. From there, I started to work with another inspiring person Olga Sierra Sandman, who led the Illinois Farm Worker Ministry. I worked for the IFWM for several years and then worked for the Princeville Migrant Summer School, where I taught English and was the Recruiter. I received a BA from Illinois Wesleyan in 1980 and a MA in Spanish American Literature from ISU. I taught at Lincoln Community High School from 1980 until 1986, then at Normal Community from !986 until 2001. I have been teaching at Normal West where I am currently Building Chair for the World Language Department. I received my National Board Teaching Certification in World Languages other than English in Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood. Recently I have been named a member of the first class of Golden Apple Fellows in downstate Illinois. I am looking forward to helping the Golden Apple Foundation promote excellence in teaching and better schools for all children.
