Please Review your students classroom information:

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to thank all of you who've supported our journey together with our students.  I appreciate all your support in and out of the classroom.  I am very proud of all of our students.  They have all grown academically and socially in so many ways.  Through all the bumps in our road this year, students have met the challenge, persevered and developed skills that they will use in the coming years.

Thank you for celebrating the "Week of the Teacher."  I am humbled by your generosity.

Sincerely,
pat

a.k.a.  Mr. Urbi

Classroom Management Plan
Delaine Eastin Elementary
20010-11

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to welcome you and your child to our fourth grade class.  As your child begins the fourth grade, our student will experience many new and exciting challenges.  As a parent/guardian, you are an important part of these experiences and your child’s education.  I know that together we can make this a wonderful year for your child both academically and socially.  We, you and I, are partners who will work together to ensure your child’s success.  I will be doing a variety of educational activities throughout the year to keep your child engaged in learning.

1.  How to Contact Me:
• E-mail:   purbi@nhusd.k12.ca.us (fastest).
• Phone:  (510) 475-9630
• Write me a note and send it with your child.
• Please, make sure I have the best contact information for you.

2. Communication

Go to http://www.quia.com/pages/purbi/rm204
Go to:  https://sites.google.com/a/nhusd.k12.ca.us/eastin-urbi204/home

Important information regarding school, district, and community events are sent home each Thursday.  Please sign and return the envelope each Friday. Report cards are completed 3 times a year.  You will receive them in November, March, and June.

3. Expectations for students, staff, and all individuals on the Eastin campus.

• Be Respectful
• Be Responsible
• Be Safe

4. Student Recognition/Rewards/Birthday Policy

With a large class size, and a very packed daily schedule, birthday celebrations at school can be a distraction from instruction.  Therefore, I ask that you only bring treats that can be passed out at lunch or at the end of the school day.  I will not use instruction time to celebrate birthdays.

We also recognize students’ birthdays with their choice of a birthday book.  If your child would like, you may donate a book to our classroom library in honor of your child’s birthday.

Your child will be honored/rewarded in many ways throughout the year:

• intrinsic rewards for achieving a goal
• student- of -the-week
• student-of -the-month
• random acts of kindness by their teacher

5. Consequences

My goal is to work with you and your child to make Eastin a positive learning experience for all students.  Possible student consequences for negative behaviors include:

1) Warning (could be more then one depending on behavior).
2) Time out in our classroom (10 minutes) with written reflection.
3) Time out, with a second written reflection to be signed by parent.
4) I will call or e-mail home to discuss a meaningful consequence that directly relates to the   behavior that is causing the problem.
5) After two parent phone contacts, we will arrange a parent/student meeting to discuss how we can work together to fix the problem.

*Please e-mail or call me if you have concerns or know of something that I should be aware of.   Severe behavioral problem(s) or incident(s) may require direct site administrative intervention.

6.  Attendance/Safety First
• Students are expected to be in school, on time everyday.
• If they arrive later than 8:15am they must go directly to the office to obtain a tardy slip before entering the classroom.
• If your child is absent it is important that you call the school to report the absence on the day that it occurs.
• If you know that your child will be missing school for five or more days you can request a home study packet by filling out an Independent Study form in the office.
• Obtain a visitors pass when you come on campus.  Do not go directly to the classroom to pick up your child for appointments.
        • Dropping off or picking up your child before and after school, please use the passenger drop off/ pick up zone in the front of the school.  Please do not park in the bus or passenger drop off zones.
• Kids First is an excellent child-care program.

7. Homework Policy

• Homework is the practice of skills that have already been taught and your child should be able to do it independently.
•A student in Grade 4 is expected to spend about 45 minutes to 1 hour per day on homework related activities.  This would include a minimum of 20 minutes of daily reading.  If it is taking longer than this you need to contact me so we can arrange a new plan.
• If your child is not able to complete the assigned homework, or if it is too difficult for your child please write me a note and I will excuse them from the assignment.
*The only excuse for missing homework is a parent note or parent contact with the teacher.
• If your child has not mastered the addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division math facts, then 10-15 minutes each day should be spent on memorizing these facts.
•I check homework daily and students will make a “friendly reminder” phone call home if work is missing.  If missing homework becomes a chronic problem I will be calling so we can work out a plan.
• I review all homework but do not return all homework.

8. School Supplies

• Thank you for sending your children well prepared.
• I may be asking for additional supplies throughout the year.

9. Parent Volunteers:  Ways To Get Involved-YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!!

• Field Trips / Book Fairs / Fundraiser Help / Picture Day)
• Join the Parent Teacher Club (meets once per month)
•  Join the School Site Council (meets once per month)
• Attend school events with your child
• Make arrangements to attend meetings concerning your child
• Help with special classroom projects.
