About me |
Bonjour! French has been a part of my life since I was born. My father was born in Belgium which is next door to France and has 2 major languages, French is one of them. As a child, I learned bits and pieces of French with my father and my grandparents. Then I moved to France with my family for 2+ years when I was in the 4th and 5th grades. I learned French thoroughly at my bilingual school. I learned more rapidly because of all my French friends on the local swim team where I practiced my French as well as swimming. When I returned to the States, I continued to study French in middle school, high school and college. During my high school years, I spent a summer with a community development program in St. Lucia in the West Indies where the islanders spoke a French creole (known there as French patois). I also studied Latin in high school. My love of foreign languages continued in college when I added Russian to my studies. I was also able to spend a summer in Moscow at an intensive Russian language program. After college and during my adult years I studied a bit of Spanish and Arabic in adult education classes. In Maine, we hear plenty of French thanks to the rich Franco-American heritage in many parts of the state, including Westbrook, of course! Many of you have French in your background! Love of languages has been a part of me since I can remember. The mystery and excitement is something that I feel every child or student should and can experience. Amuses-toi et bon voyage! |
