About me |
My name is Sandra Crenshaw and I am one of the founding teachers of Westlake Charter School. I started teaching second grade here at Westlake Charter and moved my way up to fifth grade!
I feel very fortunate to be part of an awesome team of professionals and I
appreciate the opportunity to serve and teach your children an exciting,
challenging, and innovative curriculum that focuses on diversity and
appreciation of different cultures, while promoting academic excellence and
foreign language acquisition.
My philosophy of education is to connect with the students to create an
active, energetic, engaging environment that fosters an enthusiasm for life-
long learning, not just academically but learning that encompasses the whole
person and that stresses their responsibility as human beings and citizens
of this planet. Students are taught to celebrate and respect each other’s
uniqueness and strengths and will learn to share their gifts and talents
with their classmates by working in cooperative groups. I believe that the
perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds of all students are important in
order to enrich learning in the classroom. In a collaborative classroom
everyone learns from everyone else, and no student is deprived of the
opportunity of making contributions and appreciating the contributions of
others. Furthermore, students are taught in a safe, nurturing, student-
centered environment where respect is always present. |

Regular Weekly Homework
1. Read 30 minutes (Accelerated Reading Books/Lit Circle Books) & complete reading log nightly
2. Spellingcity.com Complete Spelling Activities and tests by Friday morning!!!
3. Social Studies - Come to class prepared by doing assigned reading and studying your notes.
4. Periodic writing homework. (We will do the pre-writing, editing, and rough drafts in class and students will be asked to type or hand write final copy for homework.)
