I am so excited to welcome you to Scott this year! Sixth grade is full of changes for both students and parents. There are so many new things to learn, from opening up lockers for the first time to figuring out where all the different classrooms in the building are located. Rest assured that I will be here to help you any way I can.
This will be my fifth year at Scott teaching math and social studies. Prior to teaching at Scott, I taught sixth grade at Schoo Middle School for three years. Before teaching at Schoo, I was a sixth grade teacher at Dawes. I also taught fifth grade at Melrose Elementary School in St. Petersburg, Florida for three years. My teaching career began at Raymond Central in Valparaiso in 1997, where I taught in a multi-age classroom of fourth and fifth graders. I grew up in Lincoln and earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2011, I finished my Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University.
My husband, Matt, and I just celebrated our nineteenth wedding anniversary. You may have seen Matt’s name before; he is a business reporter and editor for the Lincoln Journal Star. We have two girls who are growing up fast! Anna will be in fourth grade this year at Sheridan and Hailey finishing her last year at Irving. We spend lots of time on the soccer field, as both girls and my husband love to play the sport. We will also spending a lot of type in the gym this Fall watching Anna in her first competitive gymnastic season. I’m not as athletic as the rest of my family. I would rather curl up with a good book or go for a walk on the beach!
Please know that I love to communicate with parents and you may be receiving quite a few emails from me this year. I try to let parents know about upcoming tests or projects so that they may help students prepare at home. I will be utilizing Synergy (ParentVue and StudentVue) so that students and parents have access to daily assignments.
I work hard to keep parents informed about what we are learning in math and social studies and am here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. I am available before school (7 a.m-7:45 a.m.), during my plan time (1:10-2:58), and after school until 3:15. I typically leave shortly after school to pick up my own children from school. You can reach me during these times by phone (402-436-1218) or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I check my email often and will try to respond to your message as quickly as possible.
I look forward to a great year! Again, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
