About me |
I am new here at DAMS and glad to be here! My husband currently deployed to Ramadi, Iraq and I felt that my life was calling for a change. So my husband and I decided to move me back home to Western PA where he'll join me when he gets back. I am coming from Jacksonville, NC where I also taught 8th grade math. This city is home to the second largest Marine Corps base, Camp Lejeune. My husband is known in the Corps as Sergeant Caleb Hayes. He is a Personal Security Officer, who along with his detachment plans and carries out all of the Colonel’s trips. You can think of them as Marine body guards I suppose! In 2007, he carried out a 13 month deployment performing the same job. During the deployment, he also guarded high ranking officials such as government contractors and more excitingly, General Petraeus and Katie Couric! He even got a chance to meet the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates. He’s been through a lot whether it’s been IED’s or combat. But through it all, he has still managed form friendships and has made a difference eight time zones across the world. My husband and I do not have any children yet. We only have our baby girl, Pepper. She is an eight month old Weimaraner. Weimaraner’s are large bird dogs known as the “grey ghost” because of their coat and ghostly eyes. They are very energetic and loving. She is probably most loving of them all. When my husband is home, it is not surprising to catch us outdoors. We LOVE fishing. Whether it be at our secret bass pond or our secret trout spot, if you can’t find us we’re probably fishing! We also love hiking and hope to make a trip to Colorado to celebrate his return. We love to run and have been very involved with sports in the past. When I was younger I played softball and ran track and cross country. I’m actually a two-time state qualifier in both track and cross-country! We also enjoy taking the family horses out on long rides. Hopefully, now that we moved back home we can do that more often! In the winter we enjoy skiing, although I have to admit I’m still learning that sport. I'm very excited to start off the second year with everyone and get A LOT accomplished! I know a lot of my new students have never liked math and think they never will, but we’ll change all that!
