GTT/PLTW Syllabus Course Title: STEM - Gateway to Technology Design and Modeling/Automation and Robotics - 6th Grade Science of Technology/Design and Modeling - 7th Grade Science of Technology/Design and Modeling - 8th Grade Automation and Robotics - 9th Grade Course Hours: 90 or 180 hours Course Prerequisite(s):Grades 6-8 None / Grade 9 Previous STEM class and instructor approval Instructor Information: Wendell Hall 405-969-2003 (CMS Main Office) whall@francistuttle.edu Course Description: Design and Modeling Students use tools such as the engineering design process, an engineering notebook, 3D modeling software, and possibly a 3D printer to invent and innovate. Learn how creative thinking and problem solving can change your world! Automation & Robotics Students use tools such as the engineering design process, an engineering notebook, and VEX Robotics® programming software to invent and innovate. Learn how creative thinking and problem solving can change your world! Science of Technology Students learn how science impacts the technology of yesterday, today, and the future. Students apply the concepts of physics, chemistry, and nanotechnology to STEM activities and projects, including making ice cream, cleaning up an oil spill, and discovering the properties of nano-materials. Course Objectives: •The GTT outline containing objectives is available. Academic Skills: •Academic competencies are available. The GTT alignment tool will be used to list objectives for each unit when taught. Methods of Instruction: Learning activity packets (LAPs), lectures, class discussions, hands-on training, demonstrations, projects, performance evaluation, online curriculum will all be used to deliver curriculum. Evaluation: Grading Policy The policy will be aligned with CMS standards. 40% Daily Grades – Daily participation in classroom and lab activities. 40% Activity/Project 10% Test 10% Semester Exam – A comprehensive posttest will be given at the end of each semester. Grading Scale A=90% - 100% B=80% - 89% C=70% - 79% D=60% - 69% F=59% or below Course Resources: Written materials will be available online. Pencils, pens, and lined notebook paper are required.
