Hello! I have been teaching science for 36 years. Most of those years I have been teaching for North Cobb High School. I worked for NASA Kennedy Space Center as an Assistant Professor of Science Education for four years, and I served The Ecclesbourne School of Derbyshire, England, as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher for one year. I also led a delegation of 30 high school students to Russia's Kaliningrad Space Center near Moscow for a one month study trip. I was selected by the National Undersea Research Program to study marine life for two weeks at the underwater lab in Key Largo, FL. I taught Science for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program for Gifted Students for two years. I have been Georgia Science Fair Judge, GHP nominee evaluator and Science Olympiad Coach for 25years. I was selected as the Cobb County Teacher of the Year in 1989. I have been selected as STAR teacher twice. I am the AJC Atlanta Honor Teacher for 2002. I was awarded Outstanding Biology Teacher for Georgia, the National Evolution Education Award and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. I am a 2006 winner of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Award for Scientific Freedom and Responsibility. I am a Christa McAuliffe Fellow, a Fulbright scholar and Georgia’s Science Teacher of the Year. I won a Teacher Scholarship to travel on an EarthWatch expedition to study elephants in Tsavo National Park in Kenya. I received my M.Ed. degree from the University of Georgia and my Ph.D. degree from Georgia State University. I am certified to teach all subjects in science, grades 7-12. I am also certified in AP Biology and English as a Second Language. I am Educational Adviser to Georgia Public Broadcasting for the STEM Career video series titled "FastForward". I serve on the Advisory Board for the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History exhibit on Human Evolution. I have been Vice President of the National Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology and the Christian Faith for six years.
