As an example, |x| = 7 means two things: x can be 7 OR x can be -7 (negative 7). There are two solutions: x = 7 or -7
Therefore, for example, when we have |-3x - 7| = 26, it means two things:
First (and obviously) it means -3x - 7 = 26
BUT, it ALSO means this -----> -3x - 7 = -26 (NEGATIVE 26)
You must solve both of these equations to find the two answers. Just as a reminder, "absolute value" is simply nothing more than the distance of a number from zero on the number line - the important words to remember are "distance from zero."
