Be careful with integers!
Remember to distribute first
Ex: 2(x - 6) = 2x - 12
Then combine like terms
Ex 2x + x = 3x
Then solve 2-step equation
2x - 3 = 5
Isolate the x by adding 3 to both sides
2x - 3 + 3 = 5 + 3
Simplify or rename
2x = 8
Divide both sides by 2
2x/2 = 8/2
Simplify or rename
x = 4

Check original equation
2x - 3 = 5 for x = 4
2(4) - 3 = 5
8 - 3 = 5
5 = 5
