When you visit the Netherlands you will see windmills in all parts of the country. Each windmill is a tower with long wooden arms near the top, like the spokes of a great wheel. The wheel, turned by the wind, moves the pumping machinery inside the tower. Some of the windmills pump water from the field into the canals, and the canals carry it out to the ocean. Some windmills grind the wheat or do other kinds of work. Nearly every farm in the Netherlands has a windmill.
