Preterite of - ir Stem Changers
Stem-changing verbs that end in "-ir" are special, so pay attention! First of all, they stem-change in the preterit tense, but not in the whole "boot" - they take on summer footwear and only change in the "sandal" or "flip-flop" (3rd person). If it stem-changes from "e" to "ie" or "i" in the present tense, it only stem-changes to "i" in the preterite. Verbs that stem-change from "o" to "ue" only change to "u" in the preterite. By the way, this same change occurs in the participles for these verbs (durmiendo, pidiendo, etc.)
