Nouns and Definite Articles

Given the Spanish noun, select the appropriate definite article from the drop-down menu.

REMEMBER: Most words ending in "-a" and "-ción" are feminine, requiring "la" as the article.

REMEMBER: Most words ending in "-o" are masculine, requiring the "el" as the article.

REMEMBER: Unfortunately, there are exceptions to these rules, as well as many words that don't end in "-a," "-o," or "-ción." These, you will have to practice a little extra with to make them really stick. See if you can come up with a memory device to help you remember them.

WORK YOUR BRAIN: Try this without your book first, to test your memory, and then use your book to help you make any corrections necessary.
