Lesson 13 Jonah’s Surprise and The Rooster Who Overslept
Jonah's Surprise Jonah’s Aunt Maria was waiting for him when Jonah’s dad drove up to the farmhouse. “Jonah!” Maria cried. “Come with me! I have a big surprise for you!” Jonah followed Maria through the house. The whole house smelled like fresh-baked apple pie. “Mmmmmmm! Apple pie!” Jonah said. “Is that the surprise?” “Nope! Come this way,” said Maria. Jonah followed Maria out to the barn. Inside, Jonah saw a calf curled up on the ground. She had soft brown eyes, and her brown coat was wet and gleaming. “She was just born today,” said Maria. “I want you to name her. That’s your surprise!” The Rooster Who Overslept There once was a rooster named Joe who never woke early to crow. When the sun rose, Joe continued to doze although he sure wished it weren’t so! Joe knew a goose named Suze Purty who woke up each day at five-thirty. Joe said, “Wake me, sweet Suze! Then I’ll sing great cockle-doos and be a more helpful old birdy!”
