Responding to Imagery in Photographs -- Barbara Morgan's "Lynchtown"
When we examine a photograph and look for a message that the artist was trying to impart, we are looking for subtleties that are often conveyed through the arrangement of the imagery. This is done through expressions and gestures of the characters, and how images are presented in terms of height, lighting, the setting, vivid contrasts, the point of view of the viewer, and other ways of emphasizing or bringing out characters and feelings.
