Many diseases and disorders and caused by a problem with a gene and the DNA that controls the gene. Some problems are mutations in the gene, mutations in the chromosome, or problems with the amount of chromosomes in a cell.

Assignment:

1) Select a disease or disorder and research it’s connection to genetics. If your disease of choice is not caused by a genetic mutation or problem, select a new disease until you have found one you like.

2) You will be creating an informational pamphlet or packet that would give a patient or parents information about the disease. The packet should include:
A) What are some symptoms and/ or side effects of the disease?
B) What is the genetic cause of the disease?
C) What are some treatments or cure?
D) Any additional information- Foundations that support the disease and it’s research- Frequently asked questions section- Famous people with the disease- etc.

You may use a pamphlet generator like Microsoft Word or Publisher as well as any other programs that may help you create a unique and interesting pamphlet. You can also create a pamphlet the traditional way using construction paper, scissors, glue, etc.

You must include with your packet a separate works cited page written in the appropriate MLA citation format. See Mrs. Roerich if you are confused.
