This selection is about the first people to fly. A man named Otto Lilienthal (Lil-ee-en-THAL) spent a lot of time in Germany watching birds fly. This gave him the idea to make gliders. A glider is like an airplane, but it is not powered by an engine. Lilienthal flew gliders many times. After his death, two brothers named Orville and Wilbur Wright used some of Lilienthal’s ideas.
