Saving Summer
Every summer, Kelsey and her friend Marcy looked forward to two things: the carnival and the parade. This year the mayor called off the carnival. Kelsey couldn't understand why. "Miss Gregory owns the dance studio. She doesn't want the public parking lot used for the carnival." Mom said. "Her students and workers park there. If that lot is closed, she'll have to cancel classes. Then she'll loose money." Dad looked up from the newspaper. "More bad news," he said. "The mayor is also canceling the parade. The money from the carnival pays for the parade. No carnival, no parade." Kelsey felt so sad. She went to her room and threw herself on her bed. The next day, Kelsey's dad had better news. "Marcy's dad owns a parking garage downtown," he said. "He's going to let people use his parking garage for free. So Miss Gregory can stay open. And since the carnival is back on, we'll get our parade, too." "Yay!" Kelsey yelled. "Summer is saved."
