Lila Downs is a Mexican/U.S. American singer, the daughter of a Mixteca Indian singer and an American professor of art and filmmaker of Scottish and English descent. She grew up in Oaxaca and later California. Later she graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in voice and anthropology.
