The following suffixes are very common in English (like in French) in forming new words:

Suffix Example
-ism imperialism
-(e/a)nce appearance
-ness abruptness
-ion capitalization
-ment involvement
-(i)ty abnormality
-hood brotherhood
-age stillage
-ship relationship
