Writing Reflections (Metacognition) 1st Qtr.
...and Review of Writing Comments
Metacognition means "thinking about thinking." One effective way to grow as a writer is to review your teacher's comments about your writing. In reflecting on the comments and suggestions about your writing across several assignments, you may notice trends and issues that keep coming up. Or you can identify habits or patterns that show strong writing techniques or careful reading and analysis. Go ahead, pat yourself on the back, too! But try to find areas for future growth. You can also discuss your own thoughts and goals for developing as a writer as well. This kind of reflection is way better than simply looking for the grade and stashing the paper away.
Please print this out and give the printout to your parents/guardians. Many are coming in for conferences tomorrow (Nov. 19) or in the following weeks. For students whose folks are coming in Fri. Nov. 19, this is definitely tonight's homework I'll be looking over this activity and may give phone calls to students and parents/guardians who have conferences on Friday. For all other students, it needs to be done by Sunday night. Up to 10 points given for doing this "writing reflection" activity.
Parent-teacher conference time is limited, and having them be up-to-date makes the best use of our time. Besides, they support you with your academic goals.
Thank you, Mr. Chamberlain
