NESA: Success at any Age
Success is measured by achieving goals. Talent, determination, practice, and dedication help people reach those goals. Age does not seem to be a factor. Many young people have made incredible contributions to society. Inventor Chester Creenwood invented earmuffs at the age of 15. His invention, like many others, was created out of necessity. While ice skating, he was bothered by the bulky, itchy scarf he tied around his head for warmth. This problem prompted him to invent earmuffs! Practice Pays Off Another successful young person was Yehudi Manuhin, a violinist. Yehudi was a child prodigy, a person with great natural talent in a specific area. At the age of seven, he was already world famous. By the age of 11 his performance of a composition by Beethoven impressed audiences. Yehudi found practicing the violin was not work, but enjoyment. Practice was the key to success. Child Artist Wang Yani was born in China. She began painting pictures at a young age. She painted beautiful pictures of monkeys by age three. By age four, she was traveling the country giving painting demonstrations to adults. At 13, her successful art hung in galleries around the world. Overcoming Tragedy Bethany Hamilton dreamed of becoming a professional surfer. At the age of 13, Bethany suffered a serious physical injury. While surfing, a tiger shark attacked her. Her arm was bitten off four inches below the shoulder. As she recovered, she accepted this tragedy with a positive attitude. When she was well enough, Bethany got back on the surfboard and, with great determination, pursued her dream of becoming a professional surfer. These young people achieved success. Talent, determination, practice, and dedication, not age, were the keys to their accomplishments. The youth of today will be tomorrow's successes.
