In two-syllable words with a final unstressed syllable ending in el or le, the final vowel sound is usually the sound you hear. -When two or more consonants come between two vowels, the syllables are usually divided between the consonants, as in shut/tle. -When a single consonant comes between two vowels, the word is usually divided after the consonant as in show/er. -It is divided before the consonant if the vowel sound is long, as in la/bel.
