Essay on the Resolution in "The Outsiders"

We reviewed two passages from The Outsiders: Soda's expression of feeling stuck in the middle, and Pony's reading of Johnny's letter and his take on that. Both are part of the novel's uplifting, hopeful resolution. Even though Ponyboy is not about to start hanging out with Cherry at school (Socs and greasers are still not exactly BFFs), both of these passages show Ponyboy himself emerging from feeling stuck after Johnny's and Dally's death. One way to assemble a thesis statement could be along these lines: "By the end of the novel, Pony feels a sense of resolution 1.) with his family relationships, 2.) with the traumas of Johnny's and Dally's death, and 3.) his commitment to being emotionally open." This is just a suggested thesis or set of topics -- you don't have to write a "five paragraph essay."
