Sport of Reading - Pink 10

Many schools these days are overcrowded. But the tiny town of Cliff Island, Maine was faced with the opposite problem. One September, when the town's only teacher took attendance in her one-room schoolhouse, she counted only seven students. This was bd news for the people who live in Cliff Island. By law, a school in the state of Maine must have at least eight students to stay open.
The residents of Cliff Island were afraid that if their school closed down, families would move away. What could they do to fight for their school? There was only one answer - they would have to convince some families with children to come to Cliff Island. They looked and looked, and finally they were successful. They found a family with six children! But their problems were not over. The father of the family was sick and could not work. So everyone in the town helped to make things easier for the new family. They spent their evenings fixing up a house for them to live in. They also helped the father find a job. Now Cliff Island has six new children for its school.
