Sport of Reading - Blue 05
Computers may be able to compute COMPLEX mathematical equations in far less than one tenth of a second, but in many respects they are very simple-minded machines. A computer must be told what to do and when to do it. It does not come up with completely ORIGINAL ideas on its own. One of the first computers, ENIAC, once tried to divide by zero and succeeded only in blowing out hundreds of its tubes. It is impossible to divide a number by zero. If a human being had not given the machine different instructions, it might still be blowing itself up! A computer must be told what numbers to use, where they can be found in its memory, what to do with them, and where to put the answer. Wouldn't you like to have someone do that for you on a math test? Computers may be very fast, but they do not think for themselves.
