A contract can be made illegal in several ways. A contract may involve something that violates statutory law, either civilly or criminally. Sometimes making the agreement itself can be illegal. When someone agrees to commit crimes for a promised consideration, he or she is involved in conspiracy, which is illegal. Other agreements are illegal because they violate public policy.
