Just Add Water
Are you looking for a new way to exercise? Do you want to keep cool while you burn calories? If you answered yes, maybe it’s time to get out of the gym and into the pool.
More and more people of all ages are trying aquatic exercise. Aquatic exercise is like exercise on land, but you do it in a swimming pool. For example, you can run, walk, and do aerobics or yoga.
There are many advantages to aquatic exercise. Your body is lighter in the water. You weigh 90 per cent less in the pool than at the gym. That’s why exercising in the pool feels easier. But you burn the same number of calories as at the gym. That’s because it takes more energy to move in the water.
Aquatic exercise is also safe and easy to learn. For most kinds of aquatic exercise, you don’t even need to know how to swim. You don’t need much training. You can do it at any age. You can do it safely with an injury or when you are pregnant. You can move in ways that are not possible on land. Some people who cannot walk on land can walk and even run in the water.
All exercise is good for you, but aquatic exercise has one more important advantage. Most people feel more relaxed when they are in water. And that means they will probably exercise more.
