BA0521: Writing - Using the Present Progressive Tense - ESL 400A - Summer I - Tuesday, 21 May 2013

Look at the three pictures displayed below. Then, using the present progressive verb form, write a paragraph about the person in the picture you selected.

Remember, your paragraph needs to focus on the present progressive verb form. The present progressive form is used to indicate actions happening at the time of speaking, or taking place right now. Thus, the present progressive tense takes the correct form of BE, determined by the subject, and adds an ing ending to the verb.

For example:

    • He is eating.
    • I am eating.
    • They are eating.

    Paragraph

What is a paragraph? A simple description is that a paragraph is a group of sentences about one main topic. It should include a topic sentence, usually at or near the beginning of the paragraph. Next, it should include sentences that provide details about the topic. Look at the following example:

This is a soccer player. He is kicking the ball.
He is running. He likes the game. His team is winning.
